How anoop.net came to be

Date Added: June 2002

So it all started in the sultry summer of 2000. I lived in New Orleans, LA (NOLA). I was bored with my evenings and weekends so I decided to register a domain. All this time, I suffered from registroPhobia but finally fought it and started the domain hunt.

I searched high and low for creative domain names but alas, my creativity comes in tiny bursts only. I looked for the preverbial .com, .net and .org for anoop but all of them were taken. WTF! I was amazed. I looked up these sites and not one of them was in use. Selfish bums!

I heard about .nu TLD from mil0, a friend in NOLA and she registered younever.nu (You Never Knew) so i registered for $45 anoop.nu. I was happy with it but still sad that i couldnt get .net or .org.

I hosted anoop.nu for a couple months on my private server at work but when I left new orleans, had to shut it down. That would be the only leave of absence anoop.nu ever took. I came back to chicago in Dec 2000, lived with my folks and used DYNDNS to host my own idiosyncrasies. My paranoia led me to never again trust any ISP and do it all myself. So after my folks earthlink contract expired, I signed with a DSL company that didnt use crappy PPPoE and got myself some static ips. This was the rebirth of anoop.nu but to my bloody surprise, whats.nu, the registrar charges clients to change DNS information. Even if they were doing it manually, it makes no sense to add on such fees. Damn money hungry lil nieutians. So, i paid and got my domain ready to launch and started with anoop.nu but soon got sick of the fact that it was flash which means that achieving dynamicity was difficult and the content just wasnt there.

So one summer afternoon in 2001, I was searching for domain names and found anoop.net to be available. I bought it right then and there and from there on began anoop.net. I also wanted to learn PHP and MySQL so it was the perfect excuse to do so. I built anoop.net version 1.0 a.k.a version 1. It took several nights and lots and lots of music and caffeine to build the site. I wanted it to look professional and complete it but lost interest in it once i finished the guestbook. Eventually, version 1 started to repulse me and I was sick of it. I moved it aside and began working on 2.0, the current version.

2.0 started off well, i designed that logo that looks like a bug at times without legs and I had a good idea of what i wanted. But one night under the influence of too much food and too little sleep, i erased the files. Fortunately, with 2.0, it was modularized so I didnt lose all the effort i put into it. Just the design elements that made it look good. So after a week or two or being bummed, the laptop got busted out again and 2.5 was released. Still not finished but closer than ever before. I think that this will be the limits of using PHP with MySQL. Version 3 and higher may use JSP and Oracle or something else since I have this profound respect for Java and Sun. So that is the story of anoop.net. Not so interesting but I like it a lot.

I use this as a project because that is ultimately what it has become. A growing entity to which I have dedicated myself. The goal of this project is simple. Create the opportunity to learn as much as possible when that opportunity is not handed to you on a silver platter.

This domain for sale: $1,000,000.00
