| | [ less ] [ edit ] [ + ] | | A Student's Guide to New York City! |
This guide is not for every student. Its for students whose pockets are light but are in search for the best their money can buy. I recently visited NY and was amazed at the amount of things one could do there with little money. That prompted me to write this guide so here we go!
First things first, bring your student ID. If you forget it at home or have lost it, then turn around, go home, and find it. Student ID's are the best way to get cheap admissions into some of NY's best attractions.
How to get there: The best way to get there is by plane. I'm making this statement only for those student who live over 6 hours away from New York. If you live or school within 6 hours, then driving is not a bad idea but please remember that parking is not abundant in this fabulous city. It will cost you a lot to park for one day. As much as $25.00 per day. Personally, I dont feel like storing my car for 25 bucks.
Amtrak or by air are the best methods of getting into the city. Speaking of which, make sure you plan your visit well ahead of time. Airlines such as ATA and Southwest can get you into NY or pretty close to it for about 1/3 of the cost of booking day of.
I only suggest amtrak for those students who live close. Dont bother taking an amtrak from california because it will take you 3 days to get there. Fly it! It costs about the same, either way.
Where to stay: There are a million places to stay in NY. Some places are not that great and make the experience less pleasurable and some are great but cost money. I would recommend looking into hostels. Hostels are cheap and fairly clean if you're intending to use it only as a place to rest before you go back out.
Hostels.com is a good place to check the hostels in any major city. You can also book them ahead of time on the web and with enough notice, you can even get a private room and bathroom for just a little bit more. Hotels.com also offers discounts but I've never used them so I can't vouch for your safety. I also cannot vouch for your safety any other place in NY. In any case, find the hotel that best suits your needs and remember to plan way ahead of time.
What to see:
I HAD WRITTEN A BIG PIECE OF THIS SECTION ONE DAY AND THEN ACCIDENTALLY HIT [ESC] LIKE THE "VI" DEPENDENT PERSON I AM AND LOST IT ALL.
SO, DONT HIT [ESC] KEY IN HTML FORMS. BAD IDEA.
IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT TO SEE, EMAIL ME AND I'LL PROMPTLY REPLY BACK WITH MY IDEAS. [less] [edit]
